Diana is a remarkable woman, as well as being utterly gorgeous she is a very talented jewellery designer and is building up her own company from absolutely nothing. In fact she has faced a great many challenges in her life, one day they will make a movie of it, and the fact that she is still working towards her dreams as well as being a fantastic mother to our son is a testament to her spirit. But if you are reading this site then chances are you are rather a fan of the motor car, and so is Diana; not only is she a petrolhead but she is a naturally talented driver and has a history of running classic cars.

But these dreams need funding, so I would like to ask a favour of you, please look at her jewellery web site and spread the word; www.rosegardenaccessories.co.uk She also makes bespoke designs so if you or a friend fancy something unique, to your own tastes, then drop her an email. Now, back to the cars...

When I first met Diana she had never driven on a race track, despite being very interested in racing, so as soon as possible a track day was sorted out. At the time she had a BMW 3 series as her every day road car, so after a quick check of its fluids and putting all the loose stuff in the boot we headed out on the track.
It was a beautiful sunny day at Bedford Autodrome, we had use of the full GT circuit, totalling seven glorious miles, and an open pit lane so we could go out whenever we wanted. Perfect.
As soon as we started it became obvious to me that Diana had a real natural talent for driving damn fast; most people need encouragement to get up to full track speed but Diana was there immediately. There is a lot to learn for anyone about track craft, brake points, apexes, turn in all need to be learnt, but Diana just seemed to soak it all up. We did have one big 'off', but if you don't spin when practising then you are not trying hard enough. Eventually the road car called time; the brakes faded and we hit fuel surge, but with a good feeling of success we headed home very happy.

The experience served to fuel Diana's passion for racing and a plan was hatched to race a BMW 325i E30 in a classic race series, and I set about finding a suitable car. Because we are skint, the solution was to buy a good shell and fit the right engine from a rust bucket donor car. The pictures below show the initial stages, the roll cage being built up and the first run with the new engine/gearbox. There is more on the car build on the Workshop section of this site.
