24/03/2006 Initial preperation work and a trip to Mallory for a track day.
Its been a bit intense for the last two weeks, I got fed up with the rain so sheltered in Malcoms Barn. Rannen came over to help out which was a real life saver and made the whole mad venture just about possible. I am using EBC Red Stuff ceramic brake pads, Goodridge hoses and Motul RBF600 racing brake fluid. All this went in with very few problems, right up till the point where a rear bleed nipple broke and i had to drill it out and re-tap it! The race seat is in with my arse on the floor and a fair but of recline i have some headroom, but cant see the bonnet and have to use a booster cushion when driving on the public road! Harness uses original belt mounting points and is a four point race item. Cut out is now in the center console, as are some extra switches which i have mounted in the old ashtray, well it pleased me. The suspension is in good condition and the only mod I have done is to fit Gaz adjustable front dampers. |

The first silencers have been replaced by a far more efficient straight bit of tube, its a little louder now but still rather civilized. To complement this i have removed the inlet ventures and widened the bore from about two to four inches. I have removed the fuel return cooler (which didn't work anyway) and the whole air con system. Also gone is the visco fan, I fitted a Sp all unit into a frame that exactly replaces the old air con condenser radiator. Mallory park test day was yesterday and all went well apart from the gearbox mount failing, so I didn't go much above about 110mph! The car handles well, the brakes are up to the job and power is barely adequate! The car weighed in at 1606Kg. Still lots of work to do before Silverstone next weekend, and the roll cage is still lost somewhere in poland! |
