It’s a well known fact that whatever space you have, it always gets filled. In order to prove this theory we have a six wheel drive Volvo C303 all terrain military ambulance in.
This is Ron’s truck which is in for dieselisation, the original Volvo 3 litre straight 6 petrol motor is a relic from the ‘60s and gobble fuel at a frightening rate whilst managing only 120bhp. So its getting replaced by a 125bhp Landrover 300 Tdi, complete with 5 speed gearbox and LT230 transfer box which should improve economy and performance. The only small fly in the ointment is that it really doesn’t fit, the intake and exhaust manifolds want to occupy the driver’s seat! Still, we won’t let a minor detail stop us.
Also, Ron found the ambulance body to be annoyingly too lacking in head room, so we have sliced the roof off and raised it eight inches. Written like that makes it sound simple!

So far the mods have included modifying the turbo, rotating the compressor 90 degrees, new boost capsule bracket fabricated, modified inlet manifold, new exhaust system design, accelerator adaptor to incorporate hand throttle, brake servo relocated, FEAD casting removed, water inlet flange and tube to mate to electric water pump, relocated alternator, revise wiring t cope with 12v engine in 24v truck, cab raised and isolated on rubbers, new and very cunning gear linkage, revised engine and gearox mountings, modified shorter front prop, new battery box, revised fuel system.
